"Carnage in C-Minor" is a very bad episode of The Transformers. In fact, it is probably the worst event in all of television history. Nothing even comes close to how bad this episode is, and it was probably responsible for the death of the Transformers as a series and as a toy. Sure, Transformers went on to Beast Wars and Armada and a whole bunch of other crap that nobody cares about, but the REAL Transformers - the originals, were all killed off in popularity because of how bad this particular episode was.
There are two things and ONLY two things about this episode that are actually good. The first is that Soundwave is in it. He is a cool character from the original set and has an awesome voice. The second is that the music is by Vince DiCola. The music was taken straight from the Transformers movie. But since this is a TV show and not a movie, they had to add a TON of reverb to the music. Music without tons of reverb is just uncalled for in TV-land I guess. The premise of this episode is awful. The Autobots and Decepticons stumble onto some random planet with aliens who "sing" instead of talk normally like well adjusted individuals. They sing in English and are easily understandable, but it just is painful to listen to because it is so damned hokey! Also, Blaster must translate everything these aliens say so that Ultra Magnus can understand them. Yes, Blaster is translating English to English. Likewise Soundwave must translate English to English for Galvatron. The story revolves around a "perfect harmony" which has the power to crush and destroy the Autobot City of Metroplex once and for all! There are 3 parts to the harmony and 3 individuals each have a part. Soundwave "records" each part of the harmony onto his cassette tapes and uses their power. How he is able to be destructive with the taped harmonies is beyond me, as it is a widely known fact that cassette tapes are EXTREMELY lossy and do not reproduce the full spectrum of sound. Soundwave should have at least used DAT or MiniDisc. Long story short, Soundwave gets all parts of the harmony and the Decepticons go to Earth to finish Metroplex. But Ultra Magnus and Blaster have brought the 3 goons to Earth who have the harmony in its native form. They use "anti-sound" to counteract Soundwave's harmony. The anti-sound is described as "white noise". OK, first of all white noise is real sound. Secondly if all they needed was white noise, then why didn't they just turn on a TV to a blank channel and let the static sound of white noise save the Earth? Geez. After Soundwave is defeated, Blaster runs up to him and presses his ERASE ALL button which is conveniently located on his groin. So I guess that means that ANYONE can walk up to Soundwave, press his ERASE ALL button and ruin all of his shit. The Earth is saved and the aliens learn to live in harmony again. The end. OK as you can see, the story is absolutely awful. But they didn't stop there. They set out to make the worst television experience possible and they weren't going to let silly things like production values get in the way! The voices are poorly directed, and sometimes characters even speak with another character's voice. The animation runs between 3 and 6 frames per second at all times (similar to the god-awful "Five Faces of Darkness" episodes that were produced in about a day). The drawings are horrendous. They must have fired all of the artists from seasons 1 and 2, because the level of the artwork in season 3 takes a gigantic step downward. It literally looks worse than Scooby Doo. What happened? Also, continuity is ignored. Let's take a look at some of the scenes in this episode:
